The Rock Box hosted another packed event on Saturday, October 25, 2025, as DJ Pastiche and Mark Facet once again headlined Shrek Rave in San Antonio. The night drew more than 400 attendees, transforming the venue into a green-lit celebration built on costume culture and “…the death of cool.”

The format, which originated as a viral party concept across the U.S., continues to thrive on its combination of free flowing humor and high-energy nostalgia. As described by Couch Soup, the Shrek Rave movement operates on shared cultural shorthand: childhood references repurposed for the dance floor. San Antonio’s iteration stayed true to that core—unfiltered and self-aware.

Facet’s approach as a host has become central to the city’s themed nightlife circuit. Known for building participatory environments rather than passive audiences, his events, featured in Bold Journey, blur the line between crowd and performance. At this Shrek Rave, that dynamic reached a peak when an impromptu “Shrek mosh pit” formed near the front of the stage. Later in the night, a papier-mâché Shrek piñata met its end to an insanely engaged crowd.

DJ Pastiche filled the room with his signature Shrek Mix, a chaotic symphony of pop nostalgia and club-ready basslines. His set pacing stitched together early-2000s anthems and modern dance drops, keeping the crowd shouting every lyric while moving in unison under a wash of green lights.

The consistent draw of these collaborations has positioned the duo as a focal point of San Antonio’s independent nightlife calendar, with each event expanding on the last.

Shrek Rave, for many, is less about the meme and more about the shared act of showing up. Beneath the layers of irony and neon green face paint lies something genuine — a reminder that community can form anywhere, even in a swamp of chaos and nostalgia.

It’s a place where people drop the pretense, scream the words to “All Star,” and find belonging in the absurd. In a world that often takes itself too seriously, Shrek Rave proves that joy — loud, messy, and unapologetic — still brings people together

The Shrek Rave marked another benchmark for Mark Facet’s 2025 run—an experiment in themed escapism that continues to double as social theater. For many, it’s less about the meme and more about the shared act of showing up.
