Dark Angel Unveils New Material for the First Time in 30+ Years
…there were little callbacks and nostalgia framing. The band is a talent still to be reckoned with.

Dark Angel brought their long-awaited new era to San Antonio on Thursday, September 12, 2025, performing at The Rock Box alongside Sacred Reich, Hirax, and Void. The stop came just one week after the release of their first album in over three decades, Extinction Level Event (Metal Planet Music, Sept 2025).

Their set included newly released tracks performed live—part of a rare run that began with a surprise debut at California Deathfest earlier this year. Fan-shot footage from recent shows confirmed the band is integrating new material regularly into sets for the first time since the early ’90s (Metal Injection, Sept 2025).

Sacred Reich continued their consistent presence on the touring circuit, having remained active through lineup shifts and cycles since their return in the 2010s. Hirax, known for their crossover-speed hybrid, delivered a concise and direct performance. Void, a Louisianna-based group, opened with fierce contention.

In a recent interview with Metal-Rules, drummer Gene Hoglan emphasized that Extinction Level Event was not a reunion, but a continuation. That same tone came through live—there were little callbacks and nostalgia framing. The band is a talent still to be reckoned with.
San Antonio’s date was part of a run tied to the new release. The show moved fast, kept transitions tight, and emphasized on the music and its classic thrash-level pacing.
