San Antonio will serve as the next chapter in one of thrash metal’s longest-standing storylines. On September 12, 2025, Twin Productions brings Dark Angel and company to Vibes Event Center in a rare convergence of speed, protest, and endurance.

The performance marks another live outing for Dark Angel drummer Gene Hoglan, whose long-circulated influence was recently confirmed when he acknowledged Metallica’s “One” may have borrowed from his rhythmic blueprint—a claim revived by fan speculation and publicly addressed in a Loudwire feature, published March 7, 2024. While Hoglan was quick to clarify the beat itself isn’t “patentable,” his role in the evolution of extreme drumming remains fixed.

Joining the night’s lineup are Phoenix’s Sacred Reich, still drawing crowds decades after surfacing with anti-war anthems like “The American Way”. Sacred Reich is also joined by former Machine Head Drummer, Dave McClain, who is from San Antonio. Hirax, the crossover thrash unit whose presence helped shape the West Coast underground. Opening is Void, a nod to the new generation keeping aggression alive.

This show situates San Antonio within a broader movement of legacy thrash maintaining relevance without relying on nostalgia. The lineup represents several corners of the genre’s spectrum—from socially conscious speed riffs to metallic hardcore hybridization—without overreaching its roots.

Expect a crowd that knows the lineage.
